About the doula
Marisa Coffee is a certified doula with 15 years of experience in supporting women through pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. She is committed to providing personalized, compassionate care to each of her families. She has studied under a licensed midwife as her assistant for many years and has vast knowledge in midwifery which allows her to support families in all settings. Marisa was born and raised in San Luis Obispo county and thoroughly enjoys serving the families of the Central Coast.
As a certified labor doula, I provide support to families during their childbirth journeys. Whether at home, in a birth center, or a hospital, I am dedicated to ensuring a positive birth experience. I am a home birth midwife assistant. I am certified and current in Neonatal Resuscitation & Adult CPR. I have a deep love of herbs and studied herbal support during the childbearing year. I have a 30 year background in massage that comes with me to each birth. I have 3 grown children of my own that have all helped forge my path into birth work. Each experience different, and each experience sparking my passion to support women in their choice to birth however and wherever they feel most confident. Through my work, as part of a Homebirth midwifery team, this has given me the ability to see that birth works when given the opportunity. I have supported many families over the years and look forward to supporting yours.

From the very beginning she was kind, compassionate, funny, and deeply present, truly listening to every part of my pregnancy journey. With every contraction, her gentle hands grounded me, reminding my body to relax with the softest touch on my forehead, shoulders back and legs. If you are looking for a doula who is loving, kind and invested in your birth, Marisa is the doula for you. She is knowledgable in so many things. During my pregnancy, she helped me deal with issues with her homeopathic knowledge of herbs, vitamins and teas and also talked me down off my pregnancy edge when I carried past due and was very close to 42 weeks and potentially not getting the birth I had envisioned. When we went into labor, she was there and supporting not just me but also my husband. Marisa helped take away my fear and brought me back to center when I would panic during my contractions. She laughed with us, cried with us, and was an anchor for me and my husband through my entire pregnancy, labor and postpartum. She is one of the most beautiful souls with the most amazing heart. Marisa took in everything, my questions, my fears, my hopes etc, and offered real, honest, raw, yet always loving perspectives that nurtured me through the profoundly transformative path of pregnancy and into motherhood. Then came labor and birth. And wow. Not only did she continue to be this nurturing, calming, compassionate presence (she gave me a hot stone massage and applied hip pressure through what felt like a thousand contractions!), but she also showed up with fierce intelligence and unwavering advocacy. I felt safe, truly safe, as she birth-sat with me until my midwife could arrive, holding space with grace and strength. When I look back on my birth story, of course I see my baby and my husband, and my wonderful midwife (shout out to Tanya!). But Marisa’s steadfast, calm, and supportive presence holds such a bright, radiant spot in my memory. Marisa didn’t just support me, she empowered me. I will be forever grateful for her care, her strength, and her presence during the most vulnerable and powerful experience of my life.
